A robust conveyor system was required for the automated filling of plastic boxes by an industrial robot.
The boxes, measuring 1,230 × 820 mm and weighing up to 300 kg, needed to be transported reliably to the filling station, positioned precisely and removed from the work area again once the filling process was complete.
The aim was to develop an automated handling solution that combines robot integration, changes of direction and the safe handover to forklifts or pallet trucks within a continuous material flow.

Conveyor system solution for the robotic filling of plastic boxes
Steel chain conveyors and roller conveyors made from TT aluminium profile systems working in tandem
Background and objectives
Automated feeding to the robot station
The plastic boxes are first loaded onto the conveyor system empty and automatically transported to the filling station. The boxes are transported by a chain conveyor, which carries the loads all the way into the robot cell. Here, the boxes are precisely aligned for the filling process.
The change in conveying direction is achieved by an integrated directional changer with a chain conveyor. This allows the material flow to be flexibly adapted to the production layout without the need for additional conveying sections.
Reliable discharge after filling
Once the filling process is complete, the conveyor system transports the plastic boxes to the end of the line.
There, the goods are transferred to forklift trucks or pallet trucks for further internal transport. The system is designed for dry operation in enclosed spaces at temperatures ranging from 15 °C to 40 °C.
Among other things, the solution enables our client to:
Automated feeding of plastic boxes for robotic filling
Flexible changes of direction in the material flow
Reliable positioning within the robot station
Safe transfer to forklifts and pallet trucks
Robust conveyor technology for loads up to 300 kg

Plastic boxes are transported to the robot station via automated conveyor systems such as chain conveyors or roller conveyors. The conveyor system ensures stable load support and precise positioning within the filling station.
A change of direction is often achieved using integrated transfer conveyors. In this process, the material is lifted and transferred across to another conveyor line without interrupting the continuous flow of material.
Conveyor systems for robotic stations must ensure precise positioning, stable tracking and reliable synchronisation with the robot cycle. This is the only way to guarantee a smooth filling process.
