Link belt conveyor

Link conveyors are a versatile conveyor system that can be used to transport both light and heavy goods with surface or point loads. Various requirements can be met by selecting the appropriate link belt conveyor. For example, different sizes of goods can be transported on a modular belt conveyor. For hot or sharp-edged components, the metal slat-band chain conveyor is recommended.

Where conventional conveyor systems reach their limits, link belt conveyors show their strengths thanks to the different design variants: they effortlessly manage straight, curved or inclined conveyor sections, enabling goods to be transported even on challenging terrain.

The link conveyor system consists of a series of individual links that are connected to each other. The links form a closed chain that picks up the material to be transported and moves it along the conveyor section. Lateral forces can also be absorbed, e.g. when pallets are fed from the side or when pneumatic pushers are used.

There are different types of link belt conveyors, including modular belt conveyors, apron feeder and hinged belt chain conveyor. Structure of link conveyors

The core of a link belt conveyor consists of hinged elements that are connected to each other via a hinge pin. The resulting link belt chain is guided on sliding elements in a straight or curved track. The hinge elements can be made of different materials, with metal and plastic being the most commonly used. The choice of material depends on the specific requirements of the application, such as the goods to be conveyed, the temperature and the desired durability. Metal links are particularly robust and are therefore suitable for transporting heavy and abrasive materials. Plastic links, on the other hand, are lighter and corrosion-resistant, making them ideal for use in humid environments or when conveying sensitive products. The belt and belt elements can be replaced quickly and easily using individual links of the link belt.

Functionality of conveyor technology with link belt

The link chain is driven by special guide wheels that engage in the drive pockets of the individual segments. The individual elements of the link belt conveyor - chain, links, deflection wheels and drive - are matched to each other to achieve smooth and efficient transport. Thanks to the variety of materials, designs and drive configurations, the link belt conveyor can be customised to meet the individual requirements of any application.

Link conveyors in use

Link belt conveyors are indispensable helpers in a wide range of industries when it comes to transporting workpieces and sensitive products. Their robust design, simple adaptability and smooth operation make this conveyor system a popular choice for a wide range of applications. Specific areas of application can include

  • Transporting workpieces: In production lines, link conveyors efficiently transport raw parts, semi-finished products and finished products, which can be hot or extremely sharp-edged, among other things.

  • Assembly and finishing: In assembly systems and at ergonomic workstations, link conveyors support the supply of components and the removal of finished products of various sizes.

  • Incoming and outgoing goods: In warehouses, link conveyors handle the storage and retrieval of various goods. These can be small packages, Euro pallets or even bags.

  • Picking and packing: Link conveyors enable the efficient provision of items for picking and subsequent shipping.

  • Sorting and palletising: Automatic sorting systems with link conveyors ensure smooth order processing.
